Sand and other silicate materials are the world’s most mined solid raw materials. They are fundamental for everything from construction and transport infrastructure to industrial manufacturing and energy production, but their importance, and the environmental, social and governance issues associated with their abstraction, are critically overlooked.
In this webinar we’ll explore the issues associated with the excavation of sand and the supply chains affected. We’ll provide an update on the outcomes from the closed-door partner session on advancing responsible business conduct in sand and silicate supply chains held at the recent OECD Forum, and subsequent follow up meetings, the next steps that are being taken to develop due diligence processes and frameworks, and how you can get involved.
The speakers will also discuss what industries reliant on sand and silicate materials should and can be doing now, to engage in the due diligence process and reduce their risk exposure, and impact on the environments and communities from which their raw materials are being sourced.
