Batteries
An industry initiative that addresses the challenges faced by the lead battery value chain
Lead Battery 360° is a global initiative to promote and recognise good practices in lead battery value chains, from lead mining to lead battery manufacturing and recycling. The programme was established by four associations representing the lead and lead battery industries: the International Lead Association (ILA), Battery Council International (BCI), the Association of European Automotive and Industrial Battery Manufacturers (EUROBAT), and the Association of Battery Recyclers (ABR).
Lead Battery 360 Assurance Scheme
- TDi developed the Lead Battery 360 (LB360) assurance scheme to promote and reward exemplary lead battery value chain practices. The scheme is built around seven performance expectations which form the foundation of the LB360 program through specific principles on responsible lead management.
- The assurance scheme includes specific requirements on responsible sourcing and health and safety with a specific focus on lead exposure, which are the most material issues on lead management currently not addressed in depth by other schemes.
Objectives and Benefits
- The LB360 assurance scheme aims to promote a responsible lead value chain by offering certification to lead producers and battery manufacturers, providing market recognition for ESG performance, and improving the industry’s reputation.
- Downstream companies can demonstrate responsible sourcing of lead materials from LB360-certified producers, ensuring a transparent and ethical supply chain.
- The Guiding Principles of the LB360 program include environmental health and safety excellence, lead exposure, supply chains, end-of-life management, communities, workers’ rights, integrity, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge sharing and capacity building.
