Community engagement and capacity building in Chile

TDi was asked by a mining company to:

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the mine’s current practices in engaging with local communities and obtaining Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC)
  • Identify areas/aspects of the project that may be influenced by communities.
  • Enhance the capacity, capability, and knowledge of mine staff regarding FPIC
  • Develop an engagement and communication plan specifically tailored for the project.

Phase 1 | Desktop review and site visit

  • Gap assessment of existing practices against IFC PS7 and FPIC-360
  • Detailed workshop agenda

  • Detailed roadmap, action plans and “path forward” for engaging and communicating with local communities

Next phase: Integration of FPIC-360 into the company’s stakeholder management system and ongoing support and capacity-building of management and community-engagement teams.
