Review of the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation for the EU Commission
The EU Conflict Regulation aims to curtail opportunities for armed groups and security forces to benefit from the trade in tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold (3TG).
The review process for the EU CMR was supported by an external study conducted by TDi Sustainability, in conjunction with the Responsible Sourcing Network and PACE, which can be found here. TDi’s team members led the review of the effectiveness and functioning of the Regulation in Europe – including its impacts on European importers of 3TGs – and during field visits and desk reviews of CAHRA and 3TG transit 10+ countries.
- Research Strategy: TDi, in partnership with the other review companies, developed a comprehensive research strategy to address the broad scope of the project. The research strategy involved field research, interviews, secondary literature analysis, and interactive workshops and engagement with more than 200 stakeholders in conflict affected and high risk areas
- Active Progress: TDi actively engaged in gathering insights on the impacts of the Regulation through various research methodologies. Our study reviewed the long-term effectiveness and functioning of EU Regulation 821/2017 and assessed the implementation of the regulation in conflict-affected and high-risk areas (CAHRAs).
