Industry Leadership – LB360°

Responsible sourcing in the lead battery industry

Lead Battery 360
Lead Battery 360° is a global initiative to promote and recognise good practices in lead battery value chains, from lead mining to lead battery manufacturing and recycling.

TDi’s role with the Lead Battery 360° Initiative

The International Lead Association (ILA), Battery Council International (BCI), Association of European Automotive and Industrial Battery Manufacturers (EUROBAT) and the Association of Battery Recyclers (ABR) in the United States – associations representing the lead and lead battery industries – came to TDi with a problem that required a solution, a gap that needed filling.

That gap was the need for a method of ensuring that lead batteries meet the highest standards in raw materials and batteries sourcing, manufacturing, and recycling globally.

  • Developed the LB360° Assurance Programme to certify participants for their adherence of the Lead Battery Code and assurance process
  • Took on the Secretariat role, which reports to the Board of Director to progress and activities
  • Selected participants and convened a Multi-stakeholder Advisory Committee
  • Conducted a public consultation process on the Lead Battery Code
  • Designed and continuously manages a bespoke website, including its contact requests
  • Conducts third-party assessments against the Lead Battery Code
  • Act as point of contact for participants on the Assurance Programme, certification steps
  • Produced material and conducted a training programme to expand pool of assessors
