The ‘New Geopolitics Of Mining’ Article

Social performance can either become a mining project’s greatest risk or one of its strongest competitive advantages…

The difference lies in how genuinely it is embedded into business decisions.

TDi Sustainability’s Standards Manager, Clara Segón, was featured in a recent edition of Global Finance Magazine, in an article called “The New Geopolitics Of Mining”, which explored how community trust, political uncertainty and social licence are increasingly shaping the future of critical minerals supply.

Clara notes in the article that when standards are adopted mainly for external communications, rather than embedded into decision-making, budgets and incentives, “those commitments are the first to be deprioritized, which accelerates distrust.”

This matters because standards only create value when they move beyond commitments on paper and become part of everyday decision-making.

Integrating human rights due diligence, meaningful stakeholder engagement, effective grievance mechanisms and responsible sourcing practices helps companies build trust, strengthen resilience and reduce long-term operational risk.

Get in touch with TDi Sustainability to learn how we help companies move from commitments on paper to practical systems that build trust, reduce risk and support more resilient mineral supply chains.
