GRI 14: Mining Sector
Global Reporting Initiative
Overview
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) develops the GRI Standards, a widely used system of sustainability reporting standards designed to help organizations report their impacts on the economy, environment and people. The GRI Standards comprise Universal Standards, Topic Standards and Sector Standards, which are used together to support consistent and comparable reporting.
GRI 14: Mining Sector 2024 is the GRI Sector Standard for organisations in the mining sector. It was developed by the Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB) through a multi-stakeholder process and is intended to support consistent and comprehensive reporting on the significant economic, environmental and social impacts associated with mining.
The Standard identifies topics that are likely to be material for mining organizations and provides sector-specific disclosures to support reporting on these impacts. It covers organizations involved in the exploration and extraction of minerals, including quarrying, as well as related activities and services. The Standard is used together with the GRI Universal Standards and applicable GRI Topic Standards.
GRI 14: Mining Sector 2024 became effective for sustainability reports published from 1 January 2026. Version 1.1, published in January 2026, aligns the Standard with the revised GRI 102: Climate Change 2025 and GRI 103: Energy 2025 Topic Standards. GRI 14 is applicable to mining organisations regardless of their location, size or specific commodity.
