IRMA Draft Standard for Responsible Mining and Mineral Processing
Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA)
Overview
The Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) is a multi-stakeholder organisation established to meet global demand for more socially and environmentally responsible mining.
IRMA has developed requirements for responsible mineral processing as part of its ongoing development of the IRMA Standard for Responsible Mining and Mineral Processing. These requirements are intended to specify performance expectations for environmentally and socially responsible practices at operations involved in the processing of minerals and metals.
IRMA previously developed a stand-alone Draft Standard for Responsible Mineral Processing, which was released for public consultation in 2021. Following further development and stakeholder consultation, IRMA has incorporated mineral processing into the broader IRMA Standard v2.0 framework. The draft Standard is intended to provide a basis for independent assessment of environmental and social performance at mineral processing operations, including smelters, refineries and other facilities involved in processing minerals and metals from ores and concentrates.
